Black Violin and John Lloyd Young Perform with TA Students

BCPS students performed “Love Train” with Tony award-winning actor and singer John Lloyd Young and the classically trained duo Black Violin. The performance was filmed and will debut at the Kennedy Center’s annual Turnaround Arts Talent Show in March 2018.  Following the performance, the musicians of Black Violin visited Bethune Elementary, using hip hop to help students learn academic material and share visual thinking strategies. John Lloyd Young visited Walker Elementary and met with teachers to read to students and encourage students that words are important on stage, in the classroom, and in life.

Bethune, Lake Forest and Walker elementary schools are among a small group to be honored as Turnaround Arts schools. The schools integrate arts education to create a well-rounded curriculum where students build confidence, critical thinking skills and creativity. The artists involved in the program lend their support and encouragement throughout the year.
